Indian that I love

I had good memories with this variety of mango. When I was a kid, we had a huge Indian Mango tree in front of the house and every summer it was an unending feast. A strong typhoon though, uprooted that tree and I kinda miss it since. This is why I stopped right away when I saw this stall selling the fruit with shrimp paste (bagoong) to die for. it was an instant classic.

Maundy Thursday

after Maundy Thursday's trip to different churches, had this lunch with pals.not the best bikol express and kinunut but the kandingga (bopis) and bulalo were very good.

crab and milkfish

after the buffet dinner I had with colleagues, there was food waiting at home >> crab and stuffed milkfish. can't resist both = gluttony. don't worry, i fasted the next day.

Gelato Teppan

this is the only thing i enjoyed in that buffet dinner that will go down in infamy as far as the history of my love for food is concerned. a twist in our beloved gelato >> teppanyaki style.
1) select your flavor
2) you may be nuts, but you need to select from this variety
I chose pistachio, almond, rice crisp, and a few chocolate chips
gelato is italian, thus has a sour identity to it. so for me, the way to enjoy it is to have a combo of 2 flavors and always have chocolate to balance the sourness with its sweetness
3) let the mixing begin..
priceless...

Overrated

been hearing good stuff bout this buffet at Sofitel Hotel called Spiral restaurant. i had the chance to try it with my colleagues and we all concluded that it is overrated. yes, true that they have wide variety of choices, from Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean fusion, Indian, and Filipino. The feast has foie gras station, noodle station, pasta station, grilled, and any other choose-and-we-cook type of thing. but one thing it fell short of is the cornerstone of every great food >> flavor. I didn't taste any dish with a bold, strong one. being a traveller, the wide-array of choices did not match the buffet from Hotel Mulia in Jakarta, Shangri-la Singapore, and even its closest rival here in Manila, Circles at Shang. but i had a blast with their unique Gelato Teppan dessert, which I will post separately.
